Title sponsor for Dame Sarah Storey’s new team

Sports travel company Sports Tours International has announced it is the title sponsor of Dame Sarah Storey’s new women’s cycle team, which will officially launch this weekend.

The Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International Cycling Team has been created by the Paralympic gold medallist and her husband Barney, who is the Team Manager and Director. The team of nine female riders will be riding in support of the work carried out by Boot Out Breast Cancer.

The launch will take place on Saturday 8th March where Sarah and the team will welcome cycling enthusiasts to join them at The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club for a 90km loop into the Cheshire countryside before heading back to the venue for the official team launch at 2pm.

Following the team ride and launch on Saturday, Sarah and the team will head over to Manchester Central to the Bike & Triathlon Show on Sunday 9th March, for their first official appearance.

Dame Sarah is the official ambassador for Sports Tours International and its exclusive European training resort Club La Santa. Sarah will be answering questions from visitors at the Bike & Triathlon Show in the ‘Sports Tours Destination Café’, following the team’s appearance.

Commenting on the new partnership, Dame Sarah Storey said: “Having the backing of such a big brand for two seasons is a fantastic situation to be in. Linking with Sports Tours provides many different avenues of support from training camps to press relations and leisure wear to travel logistics. We are delighted to have their support for the next two seasons and Chris Bird and his team will make a real difference to the way we deliver the team both on and off the bike.”

The launch will start with an opportunity to meet and ride with the team and for a donation of £10 to Boot Out Breast Cancer, riders can roll out with the girls leading the pack at 10am sharp. Anyone wishing to join in the ride should ensure they arrive at The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club in time to be ready to leave with the girls. The official launch will then happen after the ride at 2pm and the girls will be available for interviews and signings after the formal presentation.

Joining the team for an initial two year period, Chris Bird, CEO of Sports Tours International spoke of the company’s desire to engage in women’s cycling; “We have enjoyed a long association with Sarah as a Sports Tours and Club La Santa ambassador. We are delighted to be involved with and are fully committed to Sarah’s vision for our Cycling team and its support of the Boot Out Breast cancer campaign.”
