The Tour of Worcester sportive on Sunday 27th October is the final sportive of the Wheels in Wheels Events season. Based at the impressive facilities of Worcester Racecourse, the event is a popular way to end the sportive season for many with its routes through the Worcestershire countryside with a few testing hills along the way.

There will be two routes available on the day; the long at 92 miles (148kms) and a shorter but no less testing 62miles (100kms). The longer route is based on the 2007 Tour of Britain stage in the area taking in many of its iconic climbs along the way along with a few other tougher one they didn’t use just for good measure. Both routes are quite hilly so the shorter route should not be underestimated even if it does have fewer hills.

Both routes head out of Worcester in a clockwise direction taking in the classic climbs of Malvern followed by Ankerdine before the long route splits off to take in an extra loop towards Tenbury Wells and a short excursion into Shropshire before returning to meet the short route again.

From here there is the chance to tackle the “killer option” of the 25% gradient of Wynniattes Way for those still feeling fresh, fear not if you aren’t as an easier option is clearer marked one mile before the climb. After this it’s a lumpy return to the finish via Holt Fleet with five listed climbs and a hot meal for all finishers at the racecourse.

The start/finish is at Worcester Racecourse in the centre of Worcester with an easy run in and out of the City and a cycle route finish to avoid the traffic. There’s also plenty of free car parking on site next to registration, just follow the signs from the entrance.

Both routes will be fully signposted; have well stocked feed stations including Clif Bar energy products, 2 on the long and 1 on the short, full mechanical back up en route as well as the start/finish, and a broom wagon should all else fail. Free tea and coffee will be available before the start as well as a snack after for all finishers.
