Not only did Anna who hails from Douglas on the Isle of Man, win the Junior title, finishing 6th in the race but far from just following the wheels, Anna was giving it out to the senior riders over the closing stages with reports on race radio of her attacking. “I’m really happy with that win” she explained. “I have wanted this the whole year and it’s been a big aim of mine. I knew it was a hilly course and would suit me well.”

“I felt really strong on all the climbs today. When we came up here (The Abbey at Ampleforth), Hannah attacked and a group went and I knew I had to go with that group.” There two other juniors in that group but up the last climb, another break went clear and Anna soon realised she was the only Junior in what was to be the final selection.

“When I realised I was the only Junior, I had to push it all the way to the line. I knew in the race overall that Hannah was going to win but she also did a lot of work for me. When we were coming into the last seven kilometres, I heard we had 40 seconds but I still kept pushing on the whole way. There was no way I was leaving it to a sprint finish!”
