Report/Result: Stone Wheelers Handicap Circuit Race

A field of 55 riders pre entered the race with 30 entering on the day and the even better, the race was run in glorious sunshine

The race was run in glorious sunshine with the riders set off around the Swynnerton Army Camp closed circuit in 4 groups; 60+ then 1 minute later the 55-59, then at another minute the 50-54, followed 30 seconds later by the 45-49 group and then finally at 3 minutes after the 60+ the under 45’s were away.

It only took 35 minutes for the under 45 group to pull back all the other groups (bigger time gaps next year!) which was impressive riding!

Not long after pulling everyone back a group of very determined under 45’s (James Notley, Matt Bonehill, Paul Belfield, Adam Howells) wishing to make judging easier, broke clear and were joined by Steve Jolley, John Potts and Graham Weigh (who crashed in the closing laps) soon establishing a gap of 1 minute. This gap stayed the same give or take 20 secs for the remainder of the 90 minute race. In the closing laps, as the lead group started to attack each other, the second group on the road was closing, but not in time to catch the top six.
