Newly crowned National 50 mile champion, Matthew Bottrill wins the CDLCA 10 mile time trial
On a warm Saturday afternoon, with hardly any wind, newly crowned National 50 mile champion, Matthew Bottrill (www.drag2zero.com) took part in the CDLCA 10 mile time trial, held on the hard undulating roads at Six-Hills Leicesterhire.
The race got underway with the first sub 21 minute ride posted by Chris Pike (Mg Decor CBS racing team) 20:58, a personal best for the course, so the conditions were looking good. Next came Adam Gascoigne (Team Pedal Power). In great form this season, Adam clocked a rapid 20:51 aboard on his Giant Trinity SL advanced time trial machine to put him on top of the leader board.
Finally, another Giant, rider Matthew Bottrill, took to the starting area on his Giant Trinity SL Advanced, and using Enve 8.9s, with SRAM gearing to power through the technical aspect of the course. Soon up to speed, Bottrill was flying into the headwind section and hit the halfway point bang on 10 minutes. With the numbers reading well from the power-metre, Bottrill concentrated on being aero and stopped the clock at 19:30, just 5 seconds short of the course record!
Asked about his winning ride Bottrill replied “I’ve been wasted all week! Last week took a lot out of me, not so much physically but mentally. I’ve just done some light riding this week and had no idea what to expect today. Once I started my warm up I knew I was going to be ok. I’m going to kick back now for a few weeks, take everything in, enjoy eating some rubbish food, have a few drinks then come back strong ready for my final target’s at the end of the year!”
Bottrill and the www.drag2zero.com will be taking part in the men’s National team trial next week, taking on IG Sigma-Pro cycing team and Artic 2000 in the mix. It should be a very intresting battle.
