Report/Results: Wolverhampton Wheelers Circuit Races

Held at the Shrewsbury Sports Village, the rain held off and 191 riders turned up to take part inthe Wolverhampton Wheelers Circuit Races from U8’s up to Elite level.

The under 8’s kicked off the days procedings with a tight sprint finish between Luke Harris of Halesowen and Daniel Wylie-Morris from Abergavenny CC. Large fields were present for all the youth events, including the U16’s where Beth Coupland of Mid Shropshire Wheelers held in with the boys to take first U16 girl.

The E/1/2/3 event saw Madison/Genesis team mates Liam Holohan and Dominic Jelfs lap the field to take first and second prizes. Will Rudgard of Dynamic Bikes rode a brilliant race to hang onto the two professionals who eventually left him behind. Adam Lewis from the promoting club won the bunch sprint to take 4th place.

The 4th category mens race had a large field, many for whom this was their first race. Taking after the Elite race, Elliott Reynolds of Solihull CC lapped the field to take the win and gain his 3rd category licence.

The womens race was won by Ciara Horne, who was racing for the second time that day after starting the E/1/2/3 earlier on. Lapping the main bunch seemed to be the race move of the day with Gareth Jones of Wolverhampton Wheelers soloing to his first win of the season.

All in all, a good days racing with many new riders trying out the sport. Wolverhampton Wheelers have their next event at Shrewsbury on 30.03.2013. Riders can still pre enter via the online entry system on the British Cycling website.
