Elite Men’s Race

After the non-stop rain in the morning, the weather was almost dry for the final race of the day, the Elite Men which was a 1-2 for Belgium. After Steven James of Hargroves Cycles had led the way at the start, three riders forced their way clear and giving as good as he got was Endura’s Oli Beckingsale.

Kevin Eeckhout (Belgium) and Oli were joined by a star signing of Hargroves Cycles  Tom van Den Bosc and the three of them battled their way round the muddy course lap after lap until the Belgian’s managed to put the odd second into Oli and it was Eeckhout who was the strongest, holding off van Den Bosc to win alone with Oli a few seconds back in third.

The gun goes, and there’s a small delay before the sound sinks in and then its  a mad rush for the first corner in a quality field for the men’s event.

A crash at the back of the field saw a rider go down on the tarmac, leaving him a lot of work to get back into the race.

A quality group of riders soon forced their way clear including Brits Steven James, Oli Beckingsale, Jody Crawforth, David Fletcher, Paul Oldham and two Belgians.

Steven James (Hargroves Cycles), Under 23 British Champion, was in great form leading the way early on. James finished first Under 23.

Nick Craig comes to grief in the pits after a clash with another rider during the bike changes.

Oli and  van Den Bosc leading the way through the mud.

Mishap for local hero and Under 23 series leader Hugo Robinson and he has a very long run back to the pits.

Victory for the Belgian  van Den Bosc.

Thumbs up from the top Under 23 Brit, Steven James

Steven James was first Under 23 and now Series leader. Yorben van Tichelt (left) was second and Adam Martin (right)  third Under 23.
