Event Organiser Mr Graeme Waters writes … After two very successful events this year at Thoresby, April 24 sees the East Midlands Youth Champs for the A, B and C categories being contested. The popularity of the first two events has resulted in an amended timetable for the day with only one race per category instead of the usual two.
With picturesque surroundings and a circuit that is a real test, this years Youth Champions will certainly be deserved winners. Negotiating a tough grind to the top of the circuit that really saps the legs followed by a really fast descent to the tight bottom hairpin/right hander, coming to an almost stop before travelling up the tree lined avenue. Dropping down through the cross roads and the sweeping (nerves off steel) bend into the last 500m before tackling the tight right hander and the short sharp hill to finish line in front of the Great House. Most of the key riders have been riding the first events so the added incentive of a medal should offer a great race.
The Youth Circuit Champs is also a selection race for the Inter Regional Road Champs in Scotland in July so this is going to add another level of racing and fireworks. Event organiser Graeme Waters said “To hold the Youth Champs here at Thorsbey is going to be just brilliant, the last two events we have held here have seen some great racing in all the Youth categories. Rider numbers for the events are gaining every time so for the first time were looking to hold separate Youth A and B races to find the Category Champions.
“A big thank you has to go to Stonebridge Trust at Thoresby Hall and the surrounding villages for letting us close the roads around the hall giving us a truly brilliant circuit”.
The amended timetable of races is as follows:
Youth Events
9.30am Signing On/Gear Check Opens
10.30am C,D,E 10Mins + 2 laps
11:00 B 20mins + 5 laps
11:45 A 30mins + 5 laps
Senior/Juniors
12pm Signing On/Gear Check Opens
1pm 3/4/J/JW 40mins + 5 laps
Medal presentations for the Youth events will take place immediately after the senior event, with medals being presented by 1976 Olympic rowing silver medallist Hugh Matheson and owner of the estate. Spaces are filling up fast for all the races with a maximum of 40 per event and a change of programme the running order has been amended to allow time for everyone and the closing date has been extended to Mon 18th April, entries on the line will be accepted but cannot be guaranteed. If more than 3 East Midlands girls enter a category then a championship medal will also be awarded in the A, B and C categories.
Prize donations once again come from Bridgegate Cycles. The course does require a number of marshal’s so parents/helpers should you wish to help us on the day to make it an even smoother then please contact Graeme Waters prior to the race. Your help will be much appreciated.
