This just in from Ian Sinclair that the Dumfries Bikefest events to be held over the 27th -29th May have been cancelledIan Sinclair writes “It is with regret that Wallacehill Events has to announce that the Dumfries Bikefest events to be held over the 27th -29th May have been cancelled due to the main sponsor, Dumfries & Galloway Council, withdrawing their funding. Budget cuts have hit the event just as it was gaining popularity within the cycling world with riders appreciating a weekend break in one of the most beautiful spots in Scotland. The cancellation leaves a gap in British Cycling’s Elite Circuit series, Women’s Road & Criterium Series and of course the Dumfries Grand Prix, the third event in the Premier Calendar Series. The Dumfries Sportive is also cancelled.
Dumfries & Galloway are still one of the most cycling orientated councils in Scotland and are continuing their support of The Tour DoonHame which starts on April 23rd at Moffat. The event is going from strength to strength and since it moved from its traditional HQ to Dumfries last year, the entry list has grown to the BC maximum of 140 riders. Wallacehill Events would like to pass on their regrets at having to cancel the Dumfries Bikefest events but it was out with their control. All entries already received will be returned or destroyed as per the riders instructions.
