Alex Dowsett has successfully defended his Men’s title whilst Wendy Houvenaghel was smiling again as she beat British TT legend, Julia Shaw to the Women’s title.

The championship was on a tough rolling course with some climbs as well as long straights and twists and turns. Even Dowsett asked the organisers to make it easier next year which considering the courses he has had to ride over the years, shows it was no cake walk.
The wind was also blowing stronger earlier in the day but the talking point was the no show of so many riders in the Men’s Championships. Michael Hutchinson, Russell Hampton, Luke Rowe were just three of the no shows on top of Matt Bottrill who had already explained to VeloUK he wasn’t going to be riding due to illness.
But even without those riders, there were still a lot of battles to get onto the podium. Dowsett was always favourite and had prepared well for it but there were so many more riders capable of making the podium. In the end, Silver went to one of Trainsharp’s star pupils Doug Dewey. He’d been kitted out by Trainsharp and he swapped his under 23 title win last year for the Silver in the mens event.

Matt Clinton, former Hill Climb champion, was the bronze medallist while a not well Rob Partridge (Endura Racing) was rueing riding the race and very much not well post race after putting himself through the mill for the worst place of all, fourth.
In the Women’s Championship, the multi championship winning lady, Julia Shaw (Drag2Zero), was for once beaten and it was by some one who had been so unjustly left out of the trio to ride the Olympics Women’s Pursuit, Wendy Houvenaghel (Bike Chain Ricci). The Beijing Silver medallist in the Pursuit, over came what must be one of the most difficult periods of her cycling career to bounce back and use the best form she has ever had to win the Women’s title.
Of the other many titles, the Under 23’s saw the GB Academy dominate the standings with four in the first five headed up by Sam Harrison who beat teammate George Atkins and Rapha Condor Sharp rider Richard Handley.
