For more than 10 years, organised by a leading light in women’s race promoting, Jon Miles, the Women’s Bedford 2 Day has been one of the leading races for women in Britain. Large entries and quite simply the best cycle racing circuit in the country at Millbrook on day 2, are part and parcel of this great event.
Marrianne Britten (Points), Sarah Storey (Yellow and Mountains) in their ShuttVR jerseys, Hannah Rich, Emma Grant and first junior, Hannah Barnes.
The race is held this year on Sunday 6 and Monday 7 of May on roads in the Bedford area and is sponsored by Women’s Team Race Series sponsor, Shutt Velo Rapide. The start sheet has the names of 90 riders on it headed by Sarah Storey riding for the For Viored team. The multiple Paralympic champion who has also won Gold medals in the abled bodied World Track Cup series, is not the only star rider however. World Junior Road Race Champion for women, Lucy Garner is also on the start sheet for Node4 Giordana. Speaking of young juniors, Molly Weaver (Scott/Epic) who rode so well at the Cheshire Classic to finish second after getting away with Sarah Storey who won, is also down to ride. As is the ShuttVR Squadra Donne team sponsored by the series sponsor, Shutt VR clothing.
The race has a great mix of events including a Team Time Trial, individual Time Trial and two road races, the latter on closed roads on a proper hilly circuit normally used to test cars on but absolutely perfect for bike racing. Finally, Jon Miles says that the race will be graced by probably the old marshal at the race/country, 93 year old Jim Floodgate!
